Best Starts for Kids (BSK) is an initiative that aims to improve the health and well-being of all residents in King County. Funded by a six-year levy that was approved by King County voters in November 2015, BSK invests an average of $65 million per year in services, programs, and initiatives that build strong and resilient families and communities and that help young people thrive.
Part of the BSK investment supports high-quality out-of-school-time programming. School’s Out Washington acts as the intermediary organization for this work, supporting planning, implementation, and performance measurement. This case study documents the early successes and challenges that School’s Out Washington experienced in supporting the BSK out-of-school-time investment.
