Upower builds positive relationships through trauma-informed coaching using movement and play to empower and educate youth who are underserved. Our vision is to confront systemic and institutional inequalities adversely affecting underserved youth by providing access to the physical, social-emotional, and academic benefits of physical activity and play.
At Upower we understand the importance of movement and play. Whether it’s trying something new, scoring your first goal, or beating your own personal best score. We take pride in providing fitness opportunities that are safe and fun for teens who wouldn’t otherwise have access.
We understand the unique circumstances and differing lives of the teens we serve. This is why Upower takes a trauma informed approach to movement. We begin each class in a restorative circle allowing our coaches to check in with our teens and provide a safe space for them to be heard.
We recognize the importance of having positive adult role models who provide a healthy learning experience in a variety of settings such as schools, detention centers, with migrant youth, and other community organizations.
Our unique approach to fitness and wellness offer teens an age appropriate physical and emotional outlet. Through sport and play Upower not only raises heartbeats and gets teens moving but also helps them build confidence, self regulation skills and cultivate leadership.
For one hour teens get to run, to play, to try something new, finding freedom from life's stressors.
For one hour our teens get to be kids again.
