Our ninth- and tenth-grade Higher Education Readiness Opportunity (HERO) program focuses on engaging students academically and guiding them on their college path. Students get the support they need to successfully navigate the transition from middle school to high school, manage the academic rigor of high school, and become college-ready.
HERO advisors work full-time in schools and serve as coaches, advocates and mentors to students in the program. They ensure students have good academic behaviors, support development of academic mindsets, and equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to be college-ready.
HERO advisors provide students with:
- One-on-one college advising and planning
- HERO group meetings
- Grade and attendance monitoring
- College visits
- Motivational speakers
- College awareness activities
- Career exploration
- Test prep
HERO and
College Bound Scholarship students are encouraged to apply for the
Achievers program, the next step in CSF’s pipeline of supports. Students who complete both the HERO and Achievers programs have a higher likelihood of enrolling directly in college than students who do not complete both programs.
