YOUTH WHO ARE
Korean Community Service Center is seeking Korean American youth in 9th-12th grade to join YouthKAN, a youth council focusing on youth mental health and the impact of the model minority myth. 9th and 10th-grade students are especially encouraged to apply.
Program Overview
KCSC's youth empowerment programs for Asian American youth support youth storytelling and advocacy initiatives. The YouthKAN council is made up of 12 Korean American high school youth residing in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties and meets weekly throughout the school year to share stories and strategize for systems change.

- Community interviews with Korean American youth
- Training on Storytelling for change, Mental Health and the Model Minority Myth, and Systems change
- Participate in community roundtables with educators, caregivers and other youth organizations

KCSC also hosts high school students from around the greater Seattle area at Camp YouthKAN summer camp to focus on identity development and community transformation.
KCSC's middle school programming (WeKAN) builds communication skills, awareness and imagination among middle school students through play-based workshops and mentorship to foster strong peer-to-peer and intergenerational relationships within our community.

Applications are open from August 23, 2021 to September 18th, 2021. An optional information session will be held on September 11, 2021, at 11 AM on Zoom.
