After School Program

KYFS's AfterSchool program provides safe, structured activities that offer youth the skills and tools for positive youth development. The program is sited at King County Housing Authority communities in Kent, Birch Creek, Valli Kee, and Cascade. The majority of the residents are refugees and immigrants from the Horn of Africa, former Eastern European bloc, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. There are over 3000 total residents in and surrounding these communities, of which over 800 are ages 5-18. Program focus is for youth to attain many skills like STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), literacy, positive pro-social behavior skills, health and nutrition, fitness, and goal setting.
