Our summer program is designed to help counter the summer slide of knowledge loss and to promote a safe, fun and memorable summer for kids and teens who may otherwise have little to no engagement with other youths during that time.
Participating kids and teens are grouped by age cohorts and each week is organized with a unique theme and a wide variety of planned physical, social and academic-support activities and programs. Each week also contains fun Club-wide staples such as Talent Tuesday and Water Wednesday, which provide opportunities for age-group social crossover. Our arts and crafts centers include tie-dying t-shirts, chalk art and mural painting.
At least 33% of the day is devoted to physical activity. (In non-pandemic-restricted summers, each Club also schedules up to 3 field trips per week that provide wonderful opportunities for physical activities such as roller and ice skating, hiking, frisbee golf and more). For academic support, a broad blend of programs and activities are rotated through each week, designed to keep all ages stimulated socially and individually.
We will take advantage of some of our local resources :
- Science activities in our science centers include Boys & Girls Clubs of America's DIY Science program and also visits by the local Mobius Science Center.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Summer Brain Gain curriculum of reinforcement activities, discovery modules and selected book reading
- The Spokane County Library bookmobile visits each Club regularly
- Chromebooks and tablets are maintained and utilized throughout each camp week.
For teens, each is automatically enrolled in our Leaders In Training (LIT) program for the morning hours. LITs are provided opportunities to assist Club staff with programs and activities for younger groups, learn about career pathways with community business partners and accomplish service projects.
