Welcome to Daybreak Star Preschool, a high-quality early learning program rooted in Indigenous, play-based, emergent curriculum that sees children and their families as competent contributors to our community. We strongly believe that the child’s first adults in their life (parents, foster parents, extended family, legal guardians) are the child’s first teachers. We look forward to strengthening a partnership with you to create a strong foundation for life and school readiness.
Daybreak Star Preschool partners with the Seattle Preschool Program (
SPP) to offer full-day (9am-3pm) early education at affordable rates. Our program centers culturally responsive pedagogy and emphasizes the importance of parents as their child(ren)’s first teachers. We give children a place to play, explore, and learn in community, establishing a solid foundation for all their future endeavors.
We use HighScope, an emergent, research-based and play-based curriculum approach that supports teachers to create lessons daily with active learning opportunities around our children’s interests to strengthen their skills. Teachers use their observations and documentation of children to embed culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate practices into their work. A key tool in HighScope is the “Plan-Do-Review” model. This model helps children decide what they want to explore during their play time and support teachers in preparing to meet the daily needs of our children.
