Program Overview
Fresh Soul, our soul food restaurant, is designed around a culinary legacy born out of struggle and survival. We serve the dishes our enslaved ancestors created with meager rations and African cooking techniques. We worked for nearly five years to make this restaurant a reality, all because our neighbors said that young people in East Central need to develop job skills in a program that builds hope for their future.
Fresh Soul is part of the non-profit Spokane Eastside Reunion Association and is a job training program for youth agres 14 to 18. Running for 14 weeks, the job training program covers topics such as:

- kitchen training
- kitchen etiquette
- food handling skills
- services,
- having a bank account and budgeting
- resume building
- job search
- interview skills
- overcoming personal barriers to success
- mentoring
- pride in giving and service to their community.
Our Fresh Soul youth job training program teaches job and life skills. Low-income and BIPOC participants aged 14-18 receive hands-on work experience, life coaching, and mentoring in our soul food restaurant.
