Rising Star Project uses the resources and professional knowledge that exist at The 5th to help every young person achieve a fulfilling career, a stronger sense of self, and confidence in their ability to inspire positive change in the world.
We are motivated by our desire for all youth to have access to high-quality, immersive arts education opportunities and to create theater that is inclusive, relevant, and inspiring to the next generation. We recruit a diverse group of participants with:
- Tuition-free programs
- Active recruitment of participants with limited arts access or from communities historically affected by racism and oppression
- Strong relationships with teachers, staff, and administrators.
Project Rising Star Project provides teens with professional mentoring, hands-on skill training, and 21st century skill building that translates to any career. It includes two after-school, tuition-free components.
We provide a classroom residency with 100 students from Kent School District’s four high schools for 45 total hours of writing and performance instruction to create and perform Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rallies for 7,500 peers. In RadioActive Musicals Volume 2, we bring 26 teens from 19 schools together for 100 hours of mentorship and skill training with theater professionals.
Teens write, create, produce, and perform original short-form musicals inspired by youth-generated stories told by KUOW’s RadioActive podcasts.
