Work, Learn & Earn

Work, Learn, & Earn (WLE) is a special opportunity for youth to fill their summer with activity, connection and fun—and learn a few things along the way, too. It is for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in SE Seattle and is designed specifically to serve youth of color. 

It is offered at our Smilow Rainier Vista Club (SRV) where 90% of members identify as youth of color; 50% qualify for the free/reduced-price school-meal programs; and 21% are English language learners—all historically underserved populations. WLE is a full-day program that runs 5 days/week for 7 weeks. In the morning, youth split their time between two workshops that offer hands-on activities and experiences that are culturally relevant and recognizable, and that have real-life applications. One focuses on academic skills and one on social-emotional skills. In the afternoon, youth are on the move—with sports, games, and off-site outdoor adventures.
