WHAT IS YAB?
YAB is a school-year program designed for high school students. These students use their voice to advise Coyote on policy, hiring, and programs. They also design and lead community-serving projects of their own.
WHO IS YAB FOR?
YAB is for Coyote students who have aged out of classes, but who still want to be involved at Coyote and help it grow! Our Youth Advisors care deeply about our community, the local political landscape, and shaping a more just and sustainable world.
YAB OPPORTUNITIES
- Weekly meetings with a student community they feel they belong to (counts toward volunteer hours)
- 1-3 community-oriented projects designed by the group throughout the year
- Quarterly meetings with staff and the board of directors to help steer the organization
- Opportunities to represent Coyote as ambassadors at school and special events
- Opportunities to volunteer in a variety of ways for Coyote at special events
- Opportunities to help interview candidates for Coyote staff positions
- Opportunities to lead programs & workshops about food justice and sustainability in our Central courtyard garden
THE YAB COMMITMENT
A Youth Advisor has:
- thoroughly considered and is ready to take on a full school-year program.
- commits to attending weekly meetings regularly (we know you might miss one here and there)
- commits to volunteer at one event per year.
- both student and family agree to have OUTSTANDING communication with the Coyote staff!
